v Takapuna @ Onepoto Domain (11 Nov)

Ellerslie: 140-10-32.4 (Andrew 38, Russell 28) WON OUTRIGHT against Takapuna: 76-10-24 (Alan B 3-15 off 7, David J 2-10 (3M) off 6 ) By 64 Runs

What a Day where dominance went to the bowlers.

Ellerslie lost the toss and were put into bat. Takapuna had come to play, boasting several ex-prem and a solid bowling line up. Conditions did not favour easy batting, with pitch assist and long grass in the outfield. A solid 2nd wicket stand of 63 from Peter (19) and Andrew F (38) set up the Ellerslie win, but at the time, no one was expecting the bowling dominance that followed. Ellerslie lost regular wickets with no single batter able to hit cleanly and with regularity. Even Russell took many a ball to get his first six. Credit to Takapuna and good bowling. Ellerslie managed 140 by the 32 second over and confidence in the win was not high.

Now it was Ellerslie to take the field.

Second ball of the innings, David J to Brendon, pushes forward, in the air to point and safely taken by Russell. Alan B, fourth ball of his first over, bowled him, a pearler which moved away and cut back in, through the gate of Stu and off stump taken. Third over and hit past mid off, scramble and both bats at the same end leading to a needless run out. Takapuna were three wickets for two runs off three overs....

Now the hunt began.

With plenty of work still to do, the opening bowlers had been miserly with less than two runs an over. Enter Neil enticing the Takapuna Captain hitting high into the air and into the safe hands of Chaminda (phew!). Now combining Neil and Alan in rotation, Alan strikes enticing a catch and a follow up L.B.W. Come the turn, Takapuna six wickets down for thirty eight of eighteen overs.

Four wickets still to get and enter Chaminda enticing catches to Andrew (great hang time) and a bowled for David J and Chaminda. End of match, Nalin entices a difficult chance in the outfield and great catch for Neil to finish the game. Takapuna all out for 76 an unlikely result.

Weldone Ellerslie, a good win and surprising challenge with the conditions. Weldone Takapuna, good game spirit and hosting at their club.

Performance of the day: Andrew F, 38 and a superb catch.
