Ellerslie Cricket Club

Senior Reports 17/18: 07 - 28 Oct

v North Shore (14 Oct)

Ellerslie: 213/6 (Aditya Edekar 83, Abrar Alam 47, Dipesh Patel 36) LOST against North Shore: 296/7 (Srirag Harish 4-54, Josh Hayward 3-32)

North Shore batted first and got off to a decent start within the first 25 overs. However, a stunning spell from J Hayward stalled Shores' momentum. Haywards couple of quick wickets got Ellerslie right back into the game. A swashbuckling knock from R Hira gave the home side a massive boost, with S Harish bowling smartly to somewhat curtail Shore running away with the game.

In reply the pair of A Alam and A Edekar kept Ellerslie in the chase. A 136 run partnership between the pair meant Ellerslie had every chance of a remarkable run chase at the 30 over mark. Unfortunately a few quick wickets meant the our side could never really get the finish required for the victory.

Overall a disappointing result, but improved batting intent meant the side showed some fight. Positives will be taken into the two day format which runs subsequently, for hopefully better results.

v Eden Roskill (07 Oct)

Ellerslie: 162/9 (Aditya Edekar 70, Dipesh Patel 31) LOST against Eden Roskill: 167/3

Ellerslie's season didn't get off to the ideal start with a loss to Eden Roskill in the first one dayer of the season.

After losing the toss and being put into bat, the innings got of to a terrible start with Ellerslie being 14/3. Some middle order resistance between A Edekar (70) and D Patel (31) brought some stability. However when the pair were dismissed in quick succession the momentum was halted. A couple of lusty blows from J Hayward got Ellerslie to an under par, but defendable score of 162.

Unfortunately, a couple of dropped catches and poor bowling meant Eden Roskill got to the target with relative ease.

3rd Grade

v North Shore @ Bayswater Park 1A (21 Oct)

Ellerslie: 185 in 16.1 overs (Russell Weerasinghe 140 [57]) WON against North Shore: 180-10 in 45 overs (Sam Edkins 3-39, Ryan "Rig" Wall 3 catches) by 8 wickets with 28.5 overs remaining

Ellerslie won the toss and chose to bowl first. Things started well with Edkins picking up a wicket in the first over. The opposition batters continued to play expansively but wickets fell at regular intervals. Kharvi and J Singh tied things up in the middle taking 2 wickets a piece. After a 10th wicket resistence, Ellerslie bowled North Shore out for 180 on the final ball of their innings.

Ellerslie's turn at bat was short lived, but glorious. Making his 3rd grade debut, Weerasinghe decided to continue on with his President's grade form smashing the hapless North Shore attack to all sections of the tiny Bayswater Park oval. R Wall (26) put on a 150 run openning partnership with Weerasinghe. North Shore's tactics turned to sledging whilst Weerasinghe's turned to hitting even bigger sixes.

A fine effort first up and hopefully a sign of things to come!

Performance of the day: Russell Weerasinghe 140[57] including 17x 6s & 8x 4s

v Cavaliers @ Michaels Ave #2 (28 Oct)

Ellerslie: 203-7 in 35 Overs (Russel 47, Peter 24, Gordon 24, Vikram 22*) WON against Cavaliers: 125 All Out in 32.2 Overs (James 3-13 of 3, Nalin 3-15 of 4.3, Gordon 2-12 of 7 with 2 maidens) by 78 runs

Ellerslie lost the toss and we put in to bat on a wet and high grass #2. Ellerslie 203 was a good target as the ground required a lot of running between wickets and boundaries were difficult to hit. Welcome Divesh and with Peter (24) and Russell (47) set a solid platform to later hitters to take advantage.

Everyone got starts to keep the score aggregating well. Nice Cameo from Gordon (24) and from Vikram (22*)to anchor the close.

The key to victory, miserly bowling and a good opening spell of bowling by Ron and Gordon restricted runs to 2 an over. By the 13,Cavaliers were 25 runs and game pretty much over. However, victory was attained by taking all ten wickets and we showed early catching form for a start of a season. Gordon 2, John (wk) 2, Vikram and Nalin 1 each.

A great start to the season and well done to first time Skipper Pete.

Performance of the day: Gordon - 2 Wickets, 2 Catches and 24 Runs
